Travelling in the Mind.

A human being is, by nature, a traveller, always searching for new horizons. An artist is pre-eminently a traveller, ceaselessly searching for something new. The Russian avant-garde movement emerged in the early part of the 20th century seeking new artistic forms. Not satisfied with identical representations of visible reality, they created their own forms with their own reality. Alexander Bobkin shared this view. His conflict with the academy style in which hè was trained was its lack of wanderlust. The static, academic style, however technically perfect it may be, was too preoccupied with visible reality. This journey is not spiritual and, for Bobkin, not interesting. He had no interest in external reality, but rather internal similitude: "What you paint is not important; the 'mental' reality behind it is what bestows life on a work of art." This is the journey of Alexander Bobkin, a journey into the bidden reality behind the visible image. This book invites the audience to join him on this journey.
